A concise explanation of what Hoops handles, what stays on your devices, and how PostHog and TikTok are used.

On-device

Full source video, audio, and the detailed Video Analysis review record are not uploaded.

User-confirmed

One bounded 512×512 rim crop may go to PostHog for improvement after you confirm a hoop.

Separate paths

TikTok handles ad attribution separately; Apple’s Tracking setting controls cross-app tracking.

1. What this policy covers

Hoops is provided by Westy Studios LLC (“Westy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy covers the Hoops iPhone and Apple Watch apps, their connected Apple services, and these legal pages.

In short: Hoops uses local processing for basketball sessions and Video Analysis. PostHog receives product analytics and a limited, user-confirmed rim-image improvement signal. TikTok is used separately for advertising attribution.

2. What Hoops handles

  • Basketball activity: Session dates, duration, shot type, makes, misses, attempts, court zones, drills, challenges, streaks, trophies, goals, and progress. Preferences you choose may include onboarding answers, position, shooting frequency, preferred shot type, Apple Watch status, attribution source, week-start preference, date format, and jersey details.
  • Video Analysis: Selected or recorded video is analyzed on your device. If the rim lock needs help, the app asks you to identify a hoop in the recovery screen. After you confirm that selection, Hoops may send PostHog one bounded 512×512 JPEG crop centered on the selected rim, with a normalized rim box, annotation source, image dimensions, a random per-install identifier, and limited app/build/distribution metadata. The crop can include nearby court, players, or other people. Full source video, audio, additional clips or full frames, filenames, Photos identifiers, precise capture times, location, raw coordinates or trajectories, embeddings, hashes, and the detailed on-device review record are not sent through this path.
  • Watch and HealthKit: With the relevant permissions, Hoops may use wrist motion to detect shots and read or write workout information such as workout type, heart rate, and active energy. HealthKit and fitness data are used for workout features, not advertising attribution.
  • Purchases: Apple processes payments. RevenueCat helps manage product identifiers, offers, purchases, restores, subscription status, and entitlements. We do not receive your full payment-card details from Apple.
  • Product analytics: PostHog may receive app-open, onboarding, session, paywall, purchase, notification, and coarse Video Analysis reliability events. Properties may include a random per-install ID, app/build, device and OS family, distribution, Apple Watch status, subscription status, and onboarding choices. When an event is sent, PostHog may also process standard technical or connection data, such as IP address, under its own policy.
  • Ad attribution: TikTok receives a limited allowlist of conversion events, such as onboarding, first-session, paywall, subscription, and purchase events. If you allow Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt, TikTok may use the device advertising identifier (IDFA) for ad measurement and related advertising. If you deny it, Hoops continues to work and Hoops does not send TikTok the IDFA.
  • Permissions and sharing: Camera and microphone support recording; Photos supports selected videos and saves; notifications support reminders; and Apple’s share sheet is used only when you choose to share. If you email us, we receive the information in your message.
  • Website use: These legal pages do not add analytics scripts or first-party cookies. The web host may receive standard request logs under its own practices.

3. How we use information

  • Provide shot logging, session history, Watch features, charts, goals, streaks, trophies, recaps, and share cards.
  • Run Video Analysis and local review, operate the feature, measure reliability, and improve hoop and shot detection using the limited PostHog path described above.
  • Sync supported records and settings through iCloud when you enable it, and provide Apple Health and notification features you choose.
  • Manage subscriptions, provide support, secure the app, debug failures, and prevent abuse.
  • Measure and improve marketing campaigns, including TikTok campaigns. Video Analysis media and HealthKit data are not used for advertising attribution.

4. When information is shared

We use service providers and Apple platform services only as needed for the purposes described here:

  • Apple: App Store and StoreKit purchases, iCloud/CloudKit, HealthKit, Photos, notifications, WatchConnectivity, and sharing.
  • RevenueCat: Subscription and in-app purchase management. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
  • PostHog: Product analytics and the user-confirmed rim-image improvement event. See PostHog’s Privacy Policy.
  • TikTok: Advertising attribution and app-event measurement. See TikTok’s Privacy Policy.
  • Share destinations: Messages, Instagram, and other destinations receive content only when you choose to share it.

We do not sell your basketball session history. We do not provide full Video Analysis footage, audio, or detailed review records to advertising services or data brokers. The rim crop and aggregate no-media Video Analysis telemetry go to PostHog for the product and model-improvement purposes described above; they are not sent to TikTok.

Some privacy laws describe ad attribution or retargeting as “sharing” or “targeted advertising.” Your Apple tracking choice and any rights available where you live apply to those uses.

5. Storage and retention

  • Session records, preferences, settings, and detailed Video Analysis review state are stored on your device. The detailed review state is not part of the PostHog event.
  • A saved app-owned video copy may remain in protected app storage for replay and may follow Apple device-backup settings. A video in Photos follows your Photos and iCloud Photos settings.
  • Supported app records and settings may sync through Apple iCloud/CloudKit when enabled. HealthKit data remains under Apple Health controls.
  • PostHog, RevenueCat, TikTok, Apple, and any share destination retain information under their own policies and settings. We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes here, security, support, disputes, accounting, or legal obligations.

6. Your choices and privacy rights

  • Delete local data: Use Hoops Settings → App Data → Full Reset, or delete the app. Remove videos from Hoops or Photos separately when needed.
  • Control Apple services: Manage iCloud, HealthKit, Photos, and notifications in Hoops and Apple Settings/Health controls.
  • Control ad tracking: Change permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. This controls TikTok’s cross-app ad attribution; it does not turn off separate PostHog product analytics.
  • Manage subscriptions: Cancel or change a subscription in your Apple ID subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
  • Ask us: Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of information we control, including analytics associated with your install identifier. We may need to verify your request and may need device details to locate that identifier.

Depending on where you live, applicable law may also give you rights to know or access your information, delete it, correct it, object to or restrict certain processing, and opt out of certain sale, sharing, or targeted-advertising uses. Contact hello@westystudios.com; we will handle requests as required by law.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No app, device, network, or service can be guaranteed completely secure.

8. Children and international users

Hoops is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us.

Hoops and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted unless a later effective date is stated. The “Last updated” date above shows when it was revised. Nothing here limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
